Here we have an eighties neon themed slot game to bring back the disco dancing mood from the days when purples and pinks were the order of the day. Gone is the time when all musicians could play a variety of instruments but excelled in one for which they became famous for. All41 in collaboration with Microgaming bring Electric Avenue slot game to the long list of retro late 20^th Century themes. Not too original as a theme, as we have seen rather a lot of neon decorations on reels, but fun and reminiscent of those carefree years. Neon card suits, soda cans, ghetto blasters,  Rubik’s cubes, high back boots, shutter shades and Polaroid instant cameras as standard symbols which decorate the reels and of course the prized scatter which is none other than the famous American iconic automobile, the DeLorean. All set against an early evening backdrop of some palm tree lined coastal boulevard, typical of the ones you see on the west coast. Not much else can be said about the theme except, perhaps that strangely enough the makers chose not to use the title track by Eddy Grant which bears the name of the slot game.

Playing the game

Electric Avenue comes with a display of 6 reels, each 4 rows high which contain no less than 4096 pay ways that pay from left to right with a potential pay out of a staggering 205,000 coins. There is a bet selection that ranges from 0.20 to 30.00 coins. The base game boasts expanding wilds that award their own multipliers, so the figure depends on the reel the wild is displayed on.  There is also a choice of two free spins feature options in the bonus game on which we shall go into more detail later, but first let’s take a quick look at some of the values of the symbols. The highest paying symbol on the reels for 6 of a kind is the ghetto blaster which rings out 250 coins, the Polaroid comes in next with a payout of 50 coins again for six of a kind. The high back boots and the Rubik’s cube follow at 20 coins for 6 of either of the two symbols.  12.50 for a set 6 sunshades, or 6 soda cans and finally the neon suits where we have spades and hearts at 10 coins and clubs and diamonds at 7.50 always for 6.  Smaller payouts are also affected whenever a minimum of any 3 identical symbols, or more appear from left to right on the reels. The scatter, portrayed by the classic DeLorean here, also pays out handsomely at 200 coins for 6, but apart from that, there is also an interesting option feature to choose from if you land a minimum of 3 scatters anywhere on the reels.

Choose between Electric Free Spins, or Neon Free Spins

Which brings us to the duo option free spins feature which is really and truly the most interesting, as well as rewarding part of Electric Avenue slot  Here the player will be given two options  from which to pick. You can either choose the Electric Free Spins which is the seven free spins feature where a power wild is randomly picked from anyone among the regular symbols. The symbol that is picked then becomes a sticking wild during these spins, these wilds then stick whenever they land on the reels for the remainder of the feature to form diverse winning combinations and can certainly be helpful to rake in big wins. What else can we say? An opinion.

Electric Avenue Slot Game is definitely not original in any true sense of the word. We’ve all seen those almost identical retro neon symbols of pink and purple countless times before, which after a while tend to fuse together to the extent where it becomes difficult to remember each slot game individually. The retro disco theme has reached its event horizon and gaming companies would do well to give the theme a rest, for a while anyway. The game in itself is quite enjoyable apart from its soundtrack which, as with most on line slots, seem to be designed to deter punters from spending too much time playing them. However, All41 in collaboration with Microgaming has put this slot game together well and the two spin features certainly add an extra dimension to the experience. With an impressive 4096 win ways and a not too generous, but somewhat acceptable RTP of 96.37 this high volatile slot game can still be the source of keen entertainment and handsome payouts. It must be said that when compared to other slots of similar themes, it does not fair too badly, and in fact comes up as one of the better slot games of its type to play. It’s varied, dynamic and has that touch of change which allows the player some control as to where to go when those scatters land.
