Roman Power Slot Game
The Roman Empire was perhaps the longest reigning, biggest and most influential empire the western world has ever seen. The monuments left behind by this great civilisation are not only impressive, but also the very engineering they implemented, their roads and building materials are, in many circumstances, superior to much of what we can offer today. In 31 BC Augustus disbanded many of the military legions whilst the remaining ones became the early imperial army and would later become transformed by his successors into permanent units staffed entirely by career soldiers who hailed from all over the vast empire. This is your story of recruitment, land those weapons, shields and all that goes to make you a grand battle name known and admired throughout the empire, as well as by the Emperor himself. Stand tall amongst the best generals, the likes of Antony and Maximus whilst reaping in the bounties and rewards bestowed onto those who truly deserve. This is what this slot game is all about. Climb the ladder of fame as you go about collecting symbols in wait of the Hero Wild, who brings you closer to your ambitions every time he makes his appearance.
The slot game
It seems that Microgaming is yet again working in collaboration with a young newly established studio. This is their first release but from what I hear, Spin Play Games have a number of other slots due to be released later this year, whether these will be in partnership with the online giant Microgaming or not, is not clear and remains to be seen. So let’s see what we have in front of us here. Roman Power is a theme slot based on the Roman Empire, a theme which we have seen feature with many slots, so much that it has now become difficult to remember, or tell them apart. Perhaps, what strikes the player immediately on playing this slot is its simplicity. No scatters and the whole game, as well as its potential, revolves around the Hero Wild which appears quite regularly and expands when it happens to form part of a winning combination. The bet size range starts at a minimum of 0.20 coins and stops at 50 coins, tops. The format is a standard 5 reels of 3 rows and hold a total of 20 paylines which must have a minimum of 3 adjacent symbol;s, from left to right beginning from reel one. There are no progressive jackpots or otherwise, but there are Power Multipliers which can award a maximum of x10. There are a total number of 11 symbols, including the wild, which appear on the reels. The lower value ones being the black jack cards, from Ten to Ace, that pay out between 2-5x and 5x the stake and the higher value symbols, namely the swords, bracers, shield, chest plate, and a battle helmet, that pay out 6.25x up to a maximum of 12.5x the bet. The Hero Wild holds the highest value of all symbols and comes in at 20x the staked bet for a straight five.
The Hero Wild
The Hero Wild, as stated earlier, is the most important card as it substitutes for all symbols to help create or complete winning combinations. It can appear on any of the five reels and expands to cover the reel , if there is an evident win. It is also the symbol which triggers the features and the card that holds the highest value of all symbols. So, in a word, sit back, spin those reels and just wait for the Hero Wild to Land as it is the only one which can spice things up and make things happen in this slot. Every time a Wild Feature is triggered there is a possibility for the Power Multiplier to follow and can randomly award a multiplier of x2, x3, x5, x7 or the maximum of x10 by which then the win is multiplied. This is, without a shadow of a doubt, the better and most lucrative stage of the slot game and some serious pay outs can be had, including the max potential windfall of 4000x the staked bet!
A very basic slot game, if ever I’ve seen one. No jackpots, no scatters, just a Hero wild on whose shoulders the whole game rests upon. The power multipliers do go some way towards saving the day as without which the slot would be of no interest to many punters at all, but even then, these do not appear often enough to raise hope for that potential win to become a reality. A high volatility ranking with a respectable RTP of 96.18%. What is rather disparaging to the slot is the hit frequency of 15.70% which sounds like a promise of a long wait during which nothing much else happens.
Impressions and opinions
A truly simple slot game is not necessarily always a bad thing. There is certainly more to find fault with when it comes to overly complicated slots that have you lost and baffled because there is so much going on. Roman Power slot is definitely not going to raise the bar, the theme is a popular one and this is Spin Play Games’ debut, after all. In fact, I always feel that creators in this industry always hold back at the beginning as though they are testing the waters and don;t want to let on on their full potential so soon and early in the game There have been a number of new independent development studios that have teamed up and collaborated with gaming giants, launching new slots online in some form of partnership, or other. This is very healthy for the industry in general, as it helps the new comers to find some exposure in an industry whose market share is well established and almost impossible to penetrate. I genuinely hope to see more of these and I eagerly wait to see what the follow up of Roman Power will be like.
